Floyd Cummings

New Lebanon – Floyd Cummings, 95, formerly of Route 20, New Lebanon, NY, died on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield, MA.
Born in New Lebanon on August 10, 1914, he was the son of the late Leroy and Catherine Turner Cummings, Sr. He was the loving husband of the late Lillian Wear Cummings, who died in 1980.
A life-long resident of New Lebanon, Floyd attended New Lebanon schools and was a member of the Church of Our Saviour. He was employed by Lane Construction for 28 years retiring in 1976. He helped build the “New Route 20” through New Lebanon. Floyd was a member of the BAC #2 construction union, a member and former President of the Lions Club as well as a long time member of the Lebanon Grange. He built many homes in the Chatham/New Lebanon area. He enjoyed gardening, masonry work and carpentry.
Survivors include his children Floyd “Buddy” and wife Helen Cummings, Jr. of West Lebanon, NY, Donna L. Smith of New Lebanon, step-daughter, Lynn and husband Gus Murray of West Lebanon, and step daughter-in-law, Judy Wear of Canaan, NY, along with 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, many great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a daughter, Alice Mae Nicometi, and siblings, Leroy Jr. and Theodore Cummings.
A Memorial Service was held on Tuesday, May 11, at 10 am in the Church of Our Saviour, Routes 20 & 22, New Lebanon, where Rev. Canon Clinton G. Dugger read the Burial Office. Inurnment followed in the Cemetery of the Evergreens. A reception followed in the Fellowship Hall of the Church.
Relatives and friends were invited to the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, 457 NY 43, Stephentown, on Monday evening from 6 to 9 pm for visitation.
Memorial contributions may be made to either the Church of Our Saviour, Hospice Services of Western Massachusetts or the Lebanon Valley Protective Association in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 9, Stephentown, NY, 12168.
