Infant Death In Hoosick Falls Investigated As Homicide

Ina McElheny, the four month old daughter of Melinda Anders and Joseph McElheny of 3 River St. was rushed by ambulance to Bennington Hospital on Thursday, May 13. The baby was then air lifted to Albany Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. An autopsy was performed. A press release from Trooper Maureen Tuffey on Friday, May 14, stated, “At this time, the State Police in Troop G are making no further comment or providing interviews of the case involving the death of 4 month old Ina McElheny of Hoosick Falls. The case is under investigation and all leads being pursued.  We will update the media as the case allows us to without compromising the investigative process.”
According to an updated release, the autopsy performed at Albany Medical Center determined that the infant had suffered numerous internal injuries. Her death has been determined a homicide. The investigation is ongoing.
Television reports on May 19 indicate that police believe that Ina’s father is a person of interest. The State Police contacted said no arrests have been made in the case to this point.
