James R. Mayer, Jr.

Stephentown – James R. Mayer Jr., 50, of Firehouse Way, Stephentown, NY, died of natural causes at his residence on Monday morning, May 10, 2010.
Born in Pittsfield, MA, on August 14, 1959, he was the son of the late Dick and Fran Jeske Mayer. A lifelong resident of Stephentown, Jim attended Berlin schools and the Stephentown Federated Church. During his adult life he was a self-employed general contractor for Mayer’s General Service. Everyone in the area knew “if it was broken Jim could fix it!”  He had learned much from his late father, who owned a TV repair shop in the area. He enjoyed snowmobiling, four-wheeling and his garden. His greatest love was that of his family.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Norma Child, his grandmother, Eva G. Mayer of Stephentown, his children, Desiree Mayer, Beverly and husband Jose Caraballo of Bayonne, NJ, Felicia and husband Fernando Leon of Adams, MA, James R. Mayer III and John Mayer of Stephentown, a grandson, Samson E. Caraballo, his siblings, Eva M. and husband David Atwater of Berlin, NY, Robert J. Mayer of Stephentown, Jennifer A. and husband RoYeon Lee of Melrose, MA, along with three nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday evening, May 14, at 7 pm in the Hall & Higgins Funeral Home, 457 NY 43, Stephentown where Rev. Susan Schultz will officiate. After cremation, inurnment will take place alongside his parents’ inurnment in the Garfield Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to the funeral home on Friday starting at 5 pm for visitation.
