Laura A. McEwan

Stephentown – Laura A. Meddaugh McEwan, 85, of Cranston Hill Road, Stephentown, NY, died on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, MA, after being stricken at her home.
Born November 15, 1924, in Stephentown, she was the daughter of the late Orin and Mabel Clifford Meddaugh. She was the loving wife of the late William G. McEwan, who died on June 13, 1987. They were married in Stephentown on March 23, 1946.
A life-long resident of Stephentown, Laura was a graduate of New Lebanon High School and the Henry Bishop Memorial School of Nursing in Pittsfield. After graduation, Laura worked for General Electric in Pittsfield as a draftswoman, at Pittsfield General Hospital as a registered nurse and at the Watervliet Arsenal as a registered nurse where she retired in 1986 after 22 years of service.
She was a member of the Stephentown Baptist Church (now the Stephentown Evangelical Community Church) where she served as Treasurer, organist and taught Sunday school. She was a member of the Stephentown Grange, DORCAS, Stephentown Pastime Riding Club and the Eastern Star #9. She enjoyed knitting and embroidering, square dancing, traveling and playing cards with her friends.
Survivors include her children, Scott W. and Shelby McConnell McEwan of Stephentown and Nancy A. and husband Frederick Reinhart of Middleburgh, NY, a sister-in-law, Betti McEwan of Canaan, NY, grandchildren, Justine Scerbo, Seth McEwan and Laura Anne Reinhart, and a great-grandson, Cameron Honiker. She is pre-deceased by a sister, Naomi Meinhart.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 5, at 1 pm in the Stephentown Evangelical Community Church, 366 NY 43, Stephentown, where Rev. Alan G. Wolcott will officiate. Private inurnment will take place in the Stephentown Cemetery.
Abiding by Laura’s wishes, she requested no flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to either the Stephentown Evangelical Community Church or the American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org)
Arrangements are under the guidance of Hall & Higgins Funeral Home of Stephentown.
