Two Berlin graduates, and lifelong friends, have been named the recipients of the “Clarkson Family Award” for 3-2 engineering at the State University of New York at Potsdam. Nicholas Paine, son of Jeff and Diane Paine of Petersburgh, and Matthew Hartnett, son of Joyce and Michael Hartnett of Berlin, both 2007 graduates of Berlin Central School received the prestigious “Clarkson Family Award” given by the Clarkson family to a student (this year two) who has excelled in the Potsdam portion of the 3-2 engineering program. Both young men have completed the 3 year portion of the engineering program at Potsdam and will continue the remaining 2 years at Clarkson. Paine has also been selected as a Physics Department Scholar for the academic year 2009-10 in recognition of his superior academic achievement. Both of these awards come with an unspecified monetary award. The awards were presented Wednesday, May 12, at Arts and Sciences Convocation Ceremonies on the SUNY campus in Potsdam.
