Kirtland F. Stowell

Hoosick Falls – Kirtland F. Stowell, 85, passed away on Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at the Hoosick Falls Health Center after a brief illness. He formerly resided in Buskirk, NY, and was the husband of the late Helen Elizabeth Stowell who passed on March 15, 1992.
Born on August 25, 1924, in Johnsonville, NY, Kirtland was the son of the late Francis and Minnie (Hunt) Stowell. He attended Hoosick Falls High School. Kirtland then went to work on the family farm until 1963. He then worked for Oak Industries in Hoosick Falls, NY, until retiring in 1989 to care for his wife.
He enjoyed going to the local fairs, caring for his lawn, throwing horseshoes and working with draft horses and oxen. Kirtland was a member of the Rensselaer County Draft Horse Association, the Washington County Fair Draft Animal Tent and the Johnsonville Grange.
Survivors include his daughter, Judy Van Der Kar and husband Jerry of Hoosick Falls, granddaughter, Denise McMahon and husband John, and great-grandsons, Tyler and Travis McMahon, all of Petersburgh, NY. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 26, at 10 am from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow at the Island Hill Cemetery in Buskirk. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5 to 8 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad or the Karen McGovern Memorial Fund through the funeral home.
