Margaret Veldran Maxon

Berlin – Margaret Veldran Maxon, 87, of Mill Street, Berlin, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at the Danforth Adult Care Center in Hoosick Falls, NY.
She was born in Hoboken, NJ, on June 6, 1923, and was the daughter of the late Clarence and Amelia Hoffman Veldran. She moved to Grafton, NY, at the age of 13. She attended the Cobb one room school house on Babcock Lake Road in Grafton. She was a 1942 graduate of Berlin Central School.
On April 11, 1944, she married Elton Maxon at the Berlin Methodist Church. Margaret was employed at Montgomery Ward, W.J. Cowee and as a nutrition aide for the Rensselaer County Department of Aging at the Senior Center in Berlin. She was a former member of the Berlin Fire Auxiliary and a member of the Petersburgh Sunshine Seniors. As a member of the Berlin Senior Citizens, she was awarded “Senior of the Year” in 1990.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Elton Maxon, her beloved sons and their spouses, David and Sally Maxon of Laurens, SC, and Danny and Rose Maxon of Waynesboro, GA. She was the cherished grandmother of nine and great-grandmother of fourteen.
Funeral services were held on Monday, June 21, at noon in the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home, 66 Armsby Road, Petersburgh, NY, where Rev. Robert Hurd officiated. Burial followed in the Meadowlawn Cemetery in Petersburgh. Relatives and friends were invited to the funeral home for visitation on Monday morning from 10 am until the start of the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Berlin Rescue Squad in loving memory of Margaret Maxon.
