Petersburgh Library News

The Petersburgh Public Library will kick off its “Make a Splash – Read” Summer Reading Program on Tuesday, July 6, at 7 pm with a performance by Caryn Tindall’s unique and fascinating dog performing team, the Dazzle Dogs. Each act is filled with poetic movement and incredible dog feats as the dogs dance, show their agility and do tricks, all to music. They will mesmerize and delight audiences of all ages. The Dazzle Dogs program will be held at the Petersburgh Veterans Memorial Community Center next door to the Library.
On Wednesday, July 7, everyone in grades k – 6 is invited to stop by the Library between 2:30 and 4:30 pm to color and decorate with permanent markers a beach ball to take home. All materials will be provided and a sample will be on display prior to the session.
Friday, July 9, at 10:30 am the Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center will present a program on water. No one can survive long without water. Learn the importance of clean water and the water cycle. Attendees will make a simple rain stick.
On Monday, July 12, at 10:30 am the Children’s Museum of Science and Technology will present a program on Reptiles. Meet live reptiles and learn all about this animal kingdom group. Learn why they shed skin, change temperature, have shells, stick out their tongues and much more!
Summer Preschool Hour
On Tuesday, July 13, at 10 am we will hold our first Summer Preschool Hour for 2 to 5 year olds. Preschoolers will learn about the slow paced life of a turtle in and out of the water by doing a fun activity and reading fiction and nonfiction stories. Please register by calling the Library at 658-2927.
There will be a special Art Program led by art teacher Dennis Fougere on Tuesday, July 13, through Thursday, July 15, at 10:30 am. The theme will be “From Dreams to Reality: Turning Fantasy Worlds into Real Places.” Attendees will explore and visualize those special, secret places we go to escape, play and dream. Using various materials and media, the artists will build, paint and create the dreamscapes of our choices to better share our visions with the rest of the world. Sign-up is required at the Library since space is limited.
On Wednesday, July 14, everyone in grades k – 6 is invited to stop by the Library between 2:30 and 4:30 pm to make a foam aquarium craft using various craft materials. All materials will be provided, and a sample will be on display prior to the session.

Friday, July 16, will feature the Mr. Twisty Super Silly Magic Show at 10:30 am. Mr. Twisty shares funny stories, encourages audience participation and get everyone laughing with crazy antics, silly magic, and laugh-out-loud slapstick comedy. The show is fun for kids of all ages and their parents.
Adults, teens and children are invited to sign up for the reading component of our Summer Program. The first 100 people to sign up will receive a book bag. Adults will also have the opportunity to enter drawings for various baskets.
