John Greene is the new Berlin Board of Education President, assuming the position formerly held by Frank Zwack. Greene was elected to the position by a vote of 4-2 (with one member abstaining), with Beverly Stewart receiving the other two votes. Beverly Stewart is the new BOE Vice President. Incoming Board Member Alan Webster Jr. is now the Parliamentarian, and John Nash and Elizabeth Miller were made Co-Legislative Liaisons.
The placid BOE meeting lacked the intensity and contentiousness seen in previous months. Yet like typical reorganization meetings, it laid the foundation for the upcoming school year. There was little discussion about the permanent superintendent search, but Stewart requested that the issue be put on next month’s agenda. Discussion on the Leadership Advisory Council was also put on hold until the August BOE meeting. The Board felt that after its August retreat, they would be in a better position to provide direction for the LAC. Also, the BOE and administration will be working together to create District goals for the upcoming school year.
