Dollar Deals Opens

July 30, 2010 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson
“It’s great,” said Hoosick Falls Village Trustee John “Ersel” Hickey during the ribbon cutting for the Dollar Deals store that opened on Saturday, July 24, at 35 Church St. “I think and hope people will accept it,” he added. “The prices are low; it’s clean; they have a great assortment, and we’re [the Board] excited about it,” Hickey said.
Owners Angelo and Megan Benardo are excited about their new store. “Hoosick Falls doesn’t have anything like this,” Angelo said. “We thought it would go well here. We believe we have something people can use.”

At this point their inventory is about 70 percent complete. He expects to have helium balloons in the next week or so. They have a selection of baby and children’s items, food stuff, toys, stationery items, household cleaners, greeting cards, party supplies, kitchen items, some soft drinks and candy and a limited selection of small appliances, vacuum cleaners and air conditioners. All sales are final. “If there are items people want, we will try to carry them,” said Angelo. “We want to give the people what they need.” Former Hoosick Falls Mayor Don Bogardus, a long time advocate of such a store and one of the first shoppers said, “I’m so glad it’s here.”
The space has undertaken quite a transformation from the former Half Time sports bar to Dollar Deals. “I can’t thank David Bently enough for all the  help he has given us in getting the store ready,” Angelo said.
DVDs
Some time during August the couple expect to have a large selections of DVDs for rent at $2.99 for 48 hours. Customers will be able to reserve specific DVDs on line and then pick them up when they are available. They will also have computer games for rent and some DVDs and games for sale.
Discounts
Dollar Deals offers 10 percent senior discounts on Mondays and Tuesdays. They also have a special 10 for 10 promotion going on through October 31. For every purchase of $10 or more the customer receives one credit. Collect 10 credits and receive a $10 store credit on the eleventh visit.
Dollar Deals is currently open Monday through Saturday from 9 am to 9 pm and Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm.
