The 5th Annual EC Golf Scramble will be held Saturday, August 14, at the Hoosick Falls Country Club. This event is a benefit to support youth participation in sports activities in the Town of Hoosick. To date the fund has supported multiple children in the community who need financial assistance while allowing the support to remain anonymous. All that is required is a phone call or letter to a member of the Carknard family with a brief description of what is needed.
Ed Carknard (EC) died in December 2003 following a brief battle with progressive colon cancer. Ed’s family wanted to come up with a fitting way to memorialize him, thus the EC Golf Scramble. EC had a love of all sports and especially in his adult years the “game” of golf. This year’s theme will be colorectal cancer awareness and education, with the goal of educating our community regarding the importance of prevention. Colorectal cancer is ranked second in the nation for cancer related deaths. Fortunately, it is easily prevented with early screening. Come find out what it’s all about.
Last year the fund raised just over $5,000 due to the generosity of the businesses and individuals that sponsored holes, donated prizes and participated. This generosity allows us to defer many of the costs associated with a fund raising event and providing more money for our youth. The proceeds are given to Town of Hoosick youth who need financial support for entry fees, equipment costs, etc. in a sport that otherwise they may not be able to participate in.
Each year T-shirts are sold with sales proceeds given to a local individual who is currently battling cancer.
Entry fee for the 18-hole scramble is $60 per person (4 person teams). Tee times are 8 am and 1 pm. Prizes will be awarded at the end of the 1 pm tee time. Food will be provided during the day with a light lunch served also for all signed up golfers.
Please stop by and join Ed’s family and friends in a fun filled day of remembering him and supporting such a great cause.
