Eleanor M. Stempek

Hoosick – Eleanor M. Stempek, 85, lifelong resident of Clay Hill, Hoosick, NY, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 28, 2010, in Hoosick after a brief illness. She had resided on Brud Way with her daughter Ellen and husband Thomas Scott. Eleanor was the wife of the late John J. Stempek, who died twenty years ago.
Born on December 3, 1924, in Hoosick Falls, NY, Eleanor was the daughter of the late Thomas and Catherine (Burke) Monahan. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy, class of 1942, and Troy Business School. Eleanor was employed at the former Wood Flong Company and the Assessors Office for the Town of Hoosick. She was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church. Eleanor enjoyed time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Ellen Scott and husband Thomas, her sons, John Stempek and wife Linda of Rutland, VT, and William Stempek of Tillson, NY, her grandchildren, Jeff Scott of Saratoga, NY, Jeremy Scott and wife Jacie of Colchester, VT, John Stempek and wife Sarah of Essex, VT, and Michael Stempek and wife Sue of Smyrna, GA, her great-granddaughters, Ashley and Emily Stempek of Essex, two sister-in-laws, Catherine Monahan of Hoosick Falls and Catherine Hoffman of Frederick, MD, and a brother-in-law, Kasmer Stempek and wife Joan of Hoosick Falls. She will be dearly missed by her dog Guinness. Eleanor is pre-deceased by two brothers, Thomas and James Monahan.
Funeral services are Friday at 10:15 am from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 am at the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street. Burial will follow the Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 7 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Sisters of St. Joseph or the Karen McGovern Memorial Fund through the funeral home.
