Harold O. Babcock

Grafton – Harold O. Babcock, 74, of Route 2, Grafton, NY, died peacefully at his home on Friday, July 16, 2010, surrounded by his loving family under the care of Community Hospice of Rensselaer County.
Born in Petersburgh, NY, on February 13, 1936, he was the son of the late H. Raymond Babcock and Mary Grogan Babcock Stasik.
Educated in Hoosick Falls schools, he was a lifelong resident of the area. He worked for the Nancy Shoe Company in Hoosick Falls, NY, and also for many contractors as a carpenter. Most recently, Harold worked in maintenance for over 20 years at the RPI Fieldhouse in Troy, NY, retiring in 1999. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include his two daughters and their spouses, Denise and Dennis Kaufmann of Hoosick Falls and Donna and George Shuhart of Berlin, NY, his longtime companion, Ida Teal and her son Randy Teal of Grafton, his sisters, Joan and husband Sherman Hoffman of Hoosick Falls and Patricia, widow of the late William McCart, of White Creek, NY, grandchildren, Michael, Adam and wife Erika Kaufmann and Jillian and Nicole Shuhart, his great-grandchildren, Sebastian and Ayden Kaufmann, and his step great-granddaughter, Aysha, along with many nieces and nephews.
Per Harold’s wishes, there will be no formal services or calling hours. His cremated remains will be buried privately in Maple Grove Cemetery in Hoosick Falls. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Harold’s life with his family at the Berlin Volunteer Fire Hall on Sunday, July 25, from noon until 4 pm.  Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Rensselaer County, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY, 12144, or the Grafton Rescue Squad in care of the Thomas M. Barber Funeral Home, P.O. Box 361, Petersburgh, NY, 12138.
