Beer is easy to make. It has been fermented for thousands of years and for most of that time in the home. It wasn’t legal until 1979, when President Carter made it legal to brew beer again in our homes. Since then over three million people have started, and enjoyed, this rapidly growing hobby. And so can you.
The Berlin Firehouse will sponsor a Homebrew Beer Workshop fund raiser to be held on Friday, July 16, at 7 pm. A $20 donation is suggested.
Mark Plaat from Hennessey Homebrew Emporium will lead the workshop to demonstrate how easy it is to make your own beer at home. If you can make soup, you can make beer.
The workshop will include a short history of brewing as well as cover the basics of home brewing equipment, ingredients, procedures, bottling and kegging and beer styles.
Since being bought in 1997 by three partners, Homebrew Emporium has expanded to three stores, one in Rensselaer on Route 4, one near Worcester, MA, one in Cambridge, MA, and one soon to be opened in Braintree, South of Boston. Homebrew Emporium is now one of the largest homebrew supply stores in the US. The company provides equipment and supplies to make beer and wine as well as cheese, vinegar and soda.
