It was Dairy Princess night at Hoosick Grange. Dave Schmidt introduced the Rensselaer County Dairy Princess, Miss Leah Remington from Melrose, NY. Leah started out with making a milk punch and serving it to everyone. It was delicious. She was assisted by her mother and grandmother.
Leah had a project where she did a study on the effects of a lifestyle on the body. The study was on a boy age 3, a high school student in his teens, her mother, her grandmother who was 70 and to Grumpy age 80. Her study was on the health of these individuals – if they exercised, ate healthy and used dairy products. Also, if they ate breakfast or not. Leah said breakfast is the most important meal of the day and lots of children don’t eat it. She told us her grandfather controlled his blood pressure by eating right and exercising. After her presentation she answered questions. She gave her punch recipe, told us she had been to the legislature, went to the Berlin parade and to the Eddy Nursing Home and to a Dairy Princess seminar. She is a junior at Hoosick Valley High School. She told us how she raised trout eggs. She started with 70 eggs and had to feed them every day and clean the tank every day. She had the eggs from late fall until May when she released them, and she had 70. Didn’t lose a one. She told us that her parents sold their cows last April and now raise heifers. They also raise pumpkins.
We thanked Leah and her mother and grandmother for coming. Then, our Master, David Cornell conducted our business meeting. After it was done, we had refreshments – a delicious flag cake with strawberries and blue berries and bananas on it. Helen Filkins was refreshment chairman, and she served it.
The Lecturer announced that she is in charge of the next program on July 28. She also said The Cinnamon Roll Contest will be held that night. Mary Cipperly is in charge of refreshments.
The Dairy Princess wrote, “On Wednesday July 14, I was invited by David Schmidt to visit the Hoosick Grange. I served milk punch to the members, gave a presentation on the importance of getting 3-Every-Day of Dairy and provided an American Dairy Association and Dairy Council Update. I told the members a little bit about my life and answered their questions. I thank the Hoosick Grange for their hospitality.”
