Janet R. Smith

July 16, 2010 By eastwickpress

Hoosick Falls – Janet R. Smith, 75, passed away on Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at the Hoosick Falls Health Center where she had resided since 2008. She was the wife of the late John A. Smith. Janet formerly resided in Cambridge, NY, and on Fox Hollow Road in Hoosick Falls, NY.
Born on November 9, 1934, in Rutland, VT, Janet was the daughter of the late Edward and Madeline (Cox) Lemay. She attended schools in Rutland and worked as a waitress throughout her life. Janet enjoyed taking care of children, going to tag sales, shopping and watching television, especially Wheel of Fortune.
Survivors include her daughters, Gretchen Karnes and husband Ron of Burlington, VT, Rebecca Benkoski and husband Bill of Hoosick Falls and Maureen Smith of Saratoga, NY, her son, Stephen Smith of Michigan, brother, Craig LeMay and wife Sue of North Carolina, sister-in-laws, Marion Plenzig of Hoosick Falls and Barb Dougherty of Massena, NY, brother-in-laws, Robert Smith and wife Mary of Hoosick Falls and Peter Smith and wife Mary Lou of Arizona, twenty-five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Janet is pre-deceased by a brother, Peter LeMay.
After the death of her husband John, Janet met the “Love of her Life” Joe Davidson of Cambridge, NY. Although a piece of Janet died when Joe passed away in 2002, she maintained a very close relationship with Joe’s five children and grandchildren. “Gramma Janet” will be dearly missed by the Davidson family.
At Janet’s request funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the care of the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hoosick Falls Health Center through the funeral home.
The family would like to thank Dr. Marcus Martinez and the nurses and staff at the Hoosick Falls Health Center for all their loving care and kindness shown to Janet during her last two years. Even on her “Grouchiest Day” she loved them all.
