Grafton Lakes State Park 25th Annual Run For The Roses

Runners from the local and Capital District areas, Massachusetts, Vermont, Virginia and New Jersey participated in the 25th Annual Run for the Roses at Grafton Lakes State Park on Sunday, August 8. The event benefits the Grafton Community Library. Activities started at 8 am with a Nature Walk around Shaver Pond to benefit the Courtney Carelli Literacy Foundation, followed by the Run. Later the little tykes took off for the one mile Fun Run. These events are a highlight at the Park every year. Congratulations to Joel Frost-Tift, 22, of Averill Park who won this year’s race, his fifth win here! He completed the course in 15:53 minutes. The record is 15:17 set by Rich Coughlin in 1989.

The female winner, Larissa Melendez, 16, of Cobleskill finished in 19:51. The record is 17:08 set by Lori Hewig in 1990.

Kayleigh Corrado of Cherry Plain was third in the female 15-19 age group, Ethan Estabrooks of Cropseyville was third in the male age 20-29 and Nicole Stagnitti of Petersburgh and Amie Bortnick of Cropseyville were second and third in the female age 30-39 age group. Anne Strock of Petersburgh was first in the female age group 40-49.
