Keeping Tradition Alive For The Children

August 20, 2010 By eastwickpress

submitted by Susan Jameson

The Fifth Annual Rock Rattle & Drum Pow Wow was a great success in both the quality of drummers, dancers and the many new dancers of all ages, including the youth and children participating. The return of the popular Joanne Shenandoah and Joseph Fire Crow were greatly appreciated by the pow wow audience. The Sunday afternoon family blessing and ceremony, the children’s Indian games program along with the raptors programs greatly enhanced audience participation. The vivacious and outgoing personality of our head man dancer, George Emerson Lee, was a fun crowd-pleaser and audience activator. People traveled from far and wide to attend the pow wow this year, and we especially appreciate the warm welcome and response from Stephentown and the surrounding areas. We are forever grateful to Susan and Neil Gardner for the opportunity to hold the pow wow in their field.
