Joseph F. McElheny, 30, of 3 River St., Hoosick Falls was indicted by a Grand Jury, arrested and arraigned in Rensselaer County Court before Judge Andrew Ceresia on Friday, August 13. He is charged with second degree murder, second degree manslaughter, three counts of second degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child. The charges stem from the death of his four and a half month old daughter, Ina Jane, on May 12 when the Hoosick Falls Police were called to the home because the child was unresponsive. Investigation into the death by the NYS Police has been underway since then. An autopsy was performed and the charges are based on that medical and other evidence.
McElheny is being held in the Rensselaer County Jail pending a bail application by his attorney.
