Hoosick Falls Derby Club Remembers Veterans

September 24, 2010 By eastwickpress

The Hoosick Falls Derby Club has once again shown its generosity by donating $500 to the Veterans Memorial Wall to be constructed in the Village Park in the Village of Hoosick Falls.  Club President Joan James said, “It is with great pride the Derby Club honors the Veterans of Hoosick who have fought to preserve our many freedoms.”
The Derby Club, started in the 1930s, has a long standing tradition of community involvement.  At its October meeting, several new members are slated for induction. If you would like to join the Derby Club, or for more information, please contact President Joanie James, Treasurer Kevin Whalen or Secretary Jane Clark.
Veterans Memorial Wall Committee spokesperson Marilyn Douglas said the Committee is so appreciative of the positive response their fund raising efforts have received by civic groups such as the Derby Club, and past and present individuals in the community.  The fund raising still continues with the goal of $45,000 to be raised by Veterans Day, November 11, 2010, with the dedication of the Wall planned for Veterans Day, November 11, 2011.  Donations of $500 will be recognized on a special plaque at the Wall.  All donations are tax deductible, and, whatever your gift, it is appreciated.  Checks may be made out to the Veterans Memorial Wall and mailed to P. O. Box 536, Hoosick Falls, NY,  12090.

Derby Club Members Jane Clark, Claire O’Leary, Nancy Webster, Dan Clayton and Joanie James were on hand to present the donation to Veterans Memorial Wall Committee members Jerry McAuliffe, Katie Bradley and Marilyn Douglas. Photo courtesy of Marilyn Douglas.
