Lady Panther Soccer Update

September 17, 2010 By eastwickpress

by Julie Luciano
The Lady Panthers have been hard at work with winning the Mount Anthony Soccer Tournament this past weekend, dominating Cambridge and battling against the Schuylerville horses.
This past Monday the Panthers defeated the Cambridge Indians 4-0. Jordyn Haynes scored the first goal after it ricocheted off the Cambridge goal. Meaghan McKee assisted her own goal by

dribbling right up the middle. “As soon as we had the second goal we settled down and started playing more as a team.” Meaghan McKee, who is playing with a strained quad muscle, said. The Indians tested out the new Hoosick Falls keeper, Emily Everard, by sending a few shots her way. It was 2-0 by half time. Jordyn Haynes added another two goals to help her team breathe a little. Haynes feels right at home playing with girls 5 and 6 years older than she. “It doesn’t really intimidate me. I actually enjoy playing with the older girls because it gives me more competition; besides its pretty cool being on varsity; the girls all make me feel really welcome,” Haynes said.
The girls traveled to Schuylerville on Wednesday knowing they would have a tough battle.  The Horses came in right behind the Panthers in the league last year. The momentum went back and forth the entire game with the ball mostly in the midfield. Schuylerville’s Nicole Senecal scored. Then Hoosick Falls’

Grace Delurey immediately followed with a goal, assisted by Maritza Gonzalez. In the second half Senecal scored again. Her goal was unanswered until there were 22 seconds left in the game, and Meaghan McKee blasted a ball into the net to put the game into overtime with an assist from Jordyn Haynes.
Late into overtime Schuylerville’s Courtney Pierce and a teammate each scored for a 4-2 Horses win.
On Sunday, September 26, at 4 pm there will be a dedication of the George Helft Soccer Complex at the Helft fields on South Street.
