Matt Berish To Participate In Florida Baseball Showcase

September 10, 2010 By eastwickpress

Berlin High School senior, Matt Berish, has joined an elite fraternity of college bound athletes from around the country.   Matt was recently chosen to participate in Coast to Coast Baseball’s Florida showcase event being held this December.  With a combination of excellent coaching, outstanding competition and unparalleled education, Coast to Coast Baseball prepares the nation’s top amateur players for success at the collegiate and professional level.
During the 5-day program Matt will work with top college coaches and pro scouts at the Roger Dean Baseball Complex in Jupiter, Florida, a spring training complex for the St. Louis Cardinals and Florida Marlins as well as their minor league affiliates.

Each summer and fall Coast to Coast sees approximately 2,000 players at a series of nationwide tryouts in order to identify those players they feel have the potential to eventually play college baseball.  From this pool approximately 250 roster spots are filled with players seeking to play at one of the game’s highest levels.  Matt showcased his skills for the Coast to Coast coaches after being invited to a recent tryout at All Star Baseball Academy in Latham, NY.  At the tryout players were evaluated in four areas – hitting, fielding, arm strength and speed.  Players selected then can elect to represent the USA in competition in Puerto Rico or work with top college coaches and pro scouts at one of their Florida or Arizona Camp and Showcase events.
Matt played catcher for the Berlin Varsity baseball team the past three years and hopes that the instruction and direction he receives in this Coast to Coast program will better prepare him for participation at the college level. He also plays summer baseball for the Brunswick Travel Baseball team which is very important to him.
In addition to his love of baseball Matt is a member of the National Honor Society at Berlin High School.  Upon graduating in 2011 he hopes to continue with his college education as a major in athletic training.
