Panther Boys Soccer Has High Hopes For The Season

September 10, 2010 By eastwickpress

by Julie Luciano
The Hoosick Falls Varsity Boys soccer team ended last season with a loss at the Sectional Semifinals, and the team is very sure that that is not how it will be ending this year. With the new additions to the team and some position rearrangement, Coach Josh Meyer is expecting a better outcome. “We lost some great seniors last year, but the new boys are great; they are more than capable of filling in the holes. Everyone on the team is versatile it’s great.”   On Wednesday, September 8, the boys competed against the 2009 Class C Sectional Champions Waterford.  The boys lost 2-1 in a very competitive and even game. Each team had an equal amount of possession time, and they both had the same amount of opportunities to put the ball in the net.   Senior Captain Will Luke scored in the second half on a penalty kick given for a handball in the box.  Luke agrees with Meyer, “We do have a great team this year, and we have the potential to go far, but we have some tough competition this year. Tamarac was league champs last year. If we can get past them, I think we will do well.”  The boys will open their league play this Friday against Cambridge on their own turf at 4:15.
