Parish Provides Walking Path In New Lebanon

September 10, 2010 By eastwickpress

by Mary Linton
The Parish of Immaculate Conception/St. Joseph has announced the creation of a walking path directly across from Immaculate Conception Church on U.S. Route 20. The path is available, without charge, to anyone in the community during daylight hours and in reasonably good weather.
Thanks to a grant increase to the parish Seniors Ministry program, phase one of a walking path has been completed this summer. The path right now is 700 feet long or about 1/8 mile. During the next four years, the path will be extended into the adjoining wooded area, eventually becoming a mile long walk. A parking area is also planned to be constructed on the south side of the highway.
As part of a broader program to encourage seniors to remain active and moving, the walking opportunities will be complemented by an indoor fitness program beginning in late October.  The indoor activities are intended to meet individual abilities and are scheduled for one hour on two mornings each week until early spring. Participants are also invited to join an optional incentive program that will reward each persons based on time spent walking or engaging in fitness activities at the parish hall.
The parish welcomes anyone who is interested. Please call the parish office, at 518-794-7651, Monday through Friday, 10 am to 2 pm for further information.
