Walking Club Comes To Hoosick Falls

September 17, 2010 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson
On Saturday, September 18, the Empire State Capital Volkssporters (ESCV) will be coming to Hoosick Falls to host a One-Day Traditional Event starting at the Ken Baker Sports Complex on Barton Avenue. Self guided walks begin at 9:30 and continue until noon. There will be two groups with guides starting out about 9:45; one will follow the 10K (about 6 mile) route and the other will take the 5K (about 3 mile) route. The guided walks are for those who are more interested in hearing about some local history as we go along. These walks will take longer because of occasional stops along the way, so they are not for people who really want to just walk.
The event offers members of the Club as well as interested walkers from the area an opportunity to participate in either a 10K (about 6 miles) or a 5K (about 3 miles) walk around the Village. The walk will touch on some fascinating local history and offer new perspectives on this scenic American village and town which may surprise those who have not been here before.
The ESCV is a member of the American Volkssport Association (www.ava.org), and the goal of the Club is to get outdoors, meet new friends, exercise without competition, and enjoy the fresh air. We welcome all who would like to join us. Come to the Sports Complex on Saturday morning, where registration will take place and walking tour directions and maps will be provided. There is a nominal $2 fee to walk, and there will be ESCV members on hand to answer questions. There will be an opportunity for those who wish to make donations to the Louis Miller Museum as a way to express ESCV’s appreciation for the welcome and help we have received from everyone in Hoosick Falls we have met and worked with to plan and implement this event.
