In the September 10 Eastwick article “Cell Transplants Save Lives” Bill Johnston was incorrectly quoted as saying stem cell transplants are 80 percent successful, compared to a bone marrow transplant which has a 20 percent success rate. Johnston said there are no success figures known with these transplants. What he said was 80 percent of registered donors will contribute blood cells through transfusions, while only 20 percent will be required to undertake a bone marrow expulsion.
What Johnston hopes is more people will be aware of the cell transplant program and will seek more information online at Be The Match.
