Eliot Kerr

October 1, 2010 By eastwickpress

Hoosick – A celebration of life and private burial for Eliot Wiggin Kerr was held on Thursday, September 23, 2010, at the Hoosick Rural Cemetery, Hoosick, NY.
Mr. Kerr, 79, died suddenly on February 11, 2010, following a hit and run accident in Jackson Township, NJ. He leaves his loving daughter, E. Wendy Baker of Hoosick Falls, NY, his devoted granddaughter, Jessie S. Baker of Ballston Lake, NY, and his beloved grandsons, Matthew J. and Lucas H. Baker, both of Hoosick Falls.
Born in Cambridge, MA, on December 11, 1930, he was the son of the late Charles A. and Edith M. (Davis) Kerr. He was a long time resident of New Jersey.
Besides his wife of thirty-one years and his parents, he is pre-deceased by his brother, Bradford D. Kerr, and his sister, Judith Kerr Comjean.
Mr. Kerr was a graduate of Hamden, CT, High School and served proudly in the United States Naval Air Service, being honorably discharged in 1954. He went on to work for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. He not only took pride in his business but truly relished the friends he made during his time in business. His insurance expertise and his reputation led him to establish his own company, Kerr Securities. A man who hated to be idle, he worked for thirteen years for several securities firms following his retirement from the insurance industry until his death. In 1955, he first married Virginia M. Travis (Lavin), who survives, and was remarried in 1966 to the former June A. Linroth; Mrs Kerr died in 1997. Mr. Kerr had a passion for work but treasured time spent with his family.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, and the George S. Hassler Funeral Home in Jackson Township, NJ.
