Firefighters Visit St. Mary’s Academy

As Part of Fire Prevention Week local Firefighters visited  St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls on Friday October 8. The firefighters spoke to the children about fire safety, smoke detectors, family escape plans, how to stop, drop and roll, the importance of knowing their home addresses and how and who to call in an emergency. Dial 911.

The Fire Department is holding a poster contest for grades k through 5  with the theme “Smoke Alarms – A Sound You Can Live With.”  There is an essay contest  with a theme of “Smoke Alarms / Your Sound For Safety” for grades 4 through 8.  On November 19 all contest winners will be announced at the school. All winning posters and essays will then be forwarded to FASNY ( Firemen’s Association of the State of New York) where they will be judged by a State level panel of judges.

Mrs. Nolan’s Pre-k class at St. Mary’s Academy spent a morning with Hoosick Falls Fire Chief Robert Bornt and firefighters Shaun Blair, John Parker Sr, Brian Lampman and Jason Paiko learning about fire prevention.
