George Turns 63

Thursday, June 8, 1854: Today John F. rode to Berlin with one of his young horses in the wagon, he went to Mr.      and bought a new two horse harness and paid 29 dollars and Geo P. went with him and paid 35 dollars for a cow and a calf to one Mr. Green.
Friday: This afternoon Geo P. answered to a summons that Old Mr. Perkins got against him but he withdrew the suit or they settled it. It was to Claudius Moffit’s store. John F. is unwell, did nothing today.
Sunday: Today Edward Manging took his cow from my pasture, it has been 4 weeks in my pasture.
Tuesday: I am some lame today, I worked in the garden a spell. Today John F. began to shear his young sheep, and Geo P. helped him a spell. It rained this afternoon. Today a Shaker from the Church family came and paid John F. 4 dol 50 cts for six bushels potatoes. Today I am 63 years of age.
Wednesday: I am quite lame, I only tended to a few chores. Today noon John F. finished shearing his sheep, Geo P. and David Green helped him shear this forenoon.
Saturday: I am still lame, towards night I hoed a spell in the garden. This afternoon John F. helped Geo P. lath and mix mortar and John Merrils plastered Geo P. milk room.
Sunday: Today brother Wm W. Holcomb from the west from near Buffalo, the town of Collins, he came to see us.
Monday: Today one Mr. Reed from New Lebanon came and paid me 4 dol and 69 cts cash and 25 pounds sugar for ten bushels of potatoes. Towards night I took my horse and wagon and carried my wife and brother Wm. W. Holcomb to brother Samuel Beers and stayed tonight on a visit.
Tuesday: This forenoon we returned home by the way of New Lebanon, as we passed through the gate I paid in my commute money 50 cts, I paid it to Squ Wheeler’s wife and I paid 15 cts  for two bottles soda beer and a plug tobacco to F. Everett’s store. Today the before-mentioned Reed came and paid me six dol and 25 cts cash for ten bushels of potatoes, John F. helped him sprout them.
Thursday: Towards night John F. went with his young horses to Lebanon and sold 1 dol 59 cts worth of strawberries, twelve quarts at 12½ cents per quart.
