The Book Discussion Group of the Grafton Community Library will be reading The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien. Since it was first published the book has become an unparalleled Vietnam testament, a classic work of American literature and a profound study of men at war that illuminates the capacity, and the limits, of the human heart and soul.
O’Brien was born in 1946 in Austin, MN, and spent his youth in a small town. He graduated summa cum laude from Macalester College in 1968. From February 1969 to March 1970 he served as infantryman with the U.S. Army in Vietnam. Then he pursued graduate studies in government at Harvard University. He has written many short stories, several books and won a number of awards for his work.
The group will meet on Wednesday, October 27, at 12:30 pm at the Library. Copies of the book are available at the Library. Anyone interested in participating is invited to join the group. For further information, please contact the Library at 279-0580.
