HACA Community Walk For Hunger Raises $5,000

October 22, 2010 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson
About thirty people took time to walk over the weekend to benefit the HACA Food Closet. Many chose times other than the two o’clock Sunday afternoon time to walk for their money. Between the walkers and corporate contributors $2,500 was raised. That money was doubled through a matching grant.
Corporate contributors included Martinez Family Realty, LLC, Taconic, St. Stanislaw Society, Thorpe’s Pharmacy, Robson & Geraghty Insurance, West Mountain Animal Hospital, TC Class of First United Church Presbyterian, Hoosick Federal Credit Union, Village Primary Care, Hoosick Falls Kiwanis Club and the American Legion Auxiliary.
In 2009 the Food Closet distributed 37,090 meals to 4,120 individuals. The average monthly food order from the Regional Food Bank was 2,700 pounds in addition to the monthly purchases of 200 pounds of meat and donations from individuals, churches, schools, the Hoosick Post Offices and Scout drives. The food budget was $18,663.

Rensselaer County Legislator Stan Brownell and Hoosick Town Supervisor Keith Cipperly were among the walkers that left from St. Mark’s Church on Sunday at 2 pm. (Bea Peterson photo)
