On Sunday, October 17, First United Church, Presbyterian Minister of Music John Button put the Church’s new Allen Digital Computer organ, with 39 stops and 49 ranks, through its paces. The instrument has two keyboards of 66 notes which are played by the hands and one of 32 notes which is played by the feet. The receptive audience was treated to everything from high medieval

trumpet sounds to low bass drum rumblings and everything in between as Button played pieces from Bach, Buxtehude, Boeringer, Young, Martin, Titcomb, Debussey, Mathias and Copland. The distribution of sound from speakers throughout the church made the music all the more enjoyable.
Delicious refreshments followed the program, which made a perfect ending for a lovely Sunday afternoon.
