Panthers Remain Unbeaten In Section II, Class C Football Action

October 15, 2010 By eastwickpress

Blue skies and vibrant foliage was the backdrop at John G. Boshart Field in Fonda-Fultonville on Saturday as the Braves came out of the locker room clearly ready to fight hard for a win against the Panthers during their homecoming game.  However, the lion-hearted Panther defense proved too much for the Braves, as the Panthers added another tally to the win column with a 21-6 victory.
Mike Brewster put the Panthers on the board five minutes into the first quarter with a one yard pass into the end zone. Erick Mulready’s extra point attempt went wide making the score 6-0.  Brewster went on to add another touchdown in the third quarter and ended the day with 14 of 20 passes completed for 207 yards.
Fonda-Fultonville found the goal late in the first quarter, evening up the score at 6-6 after a missed field goal attempt.  The Panthers’ Tanner Williams answered with two minutes remaining in the half before Randy Tutunjian connected with Brad Burns for the two-point conversion to close out the half with a score of 14-6.
Steve Colvin’s fumble recovery early in the third quarter set Brewster up for the final touchdown of the game, and a successful point after touchdown attempt by Erick Mulready made the final score 21-6.
On his team’s victory, Coach Ron Jones said, “It was great to have the opportunity to play in a playoff-like atmosphere against a team that is powerful and has many traditions to stand on. I am pleased that we passed the test and played a very physical game.  Once again, our defense stifled a team that runs the ball well, and we had balance and big plays on offense.”
Hoosick Falls was ready to host Lake George on Friday night at 7 pm for their Homecoming game, but Lake George has forfeited the game.
