Why Are Bats Disappearing? A Talk On White-nose Syndrome

October 22, 2010 By eastwickpress

The Friends of the Dyken Pond Center will be having its annual dinner on Wednesday, October 27, at 6:30 pm at the Brunswick BBQ and Brew. The buffet dinner will be followed by Carl Herzog, Wildlife Biologist with NYSDEC, speaking on “White-nose Syndrome: A Case Study in 21st Century Wildlife Management.” Carl Herzog has been studying white-nose syndrome since the first outbreak was discovered in upstate New York. The presentation will give an update on white-nose syndrome and its effects on local bats followed by a philosophical discussion of why and how it happened. Buffet dinner will be served for a total cost of $22 or $18 for Friends members. Dinner will also be followed by a brief annual membership meeting of the Friends of the Dyken Pond Center. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear our speaker and meet the Directors and other Friends members. Please RSVP by October 25 to jim@bonesteel.com or 518-766-5354.
