20th Annual Thanksgiving & Praise Concert

November 12, 2010 By eastwickpress

The choirs of the West Hoosick Baptist Church and Christ United Methodist Church, plus guest singers, invite you to their 20th concert!  The concert will be presented Saturday, November 20, at 7 pm, and Sunday, November 21, at 2 pm – both held at the Christ United Methodist Church in Johnsonville.
Twenty years ago this annual concert began when Dottie Cross, organist and Choir Director at the West Hoosick Baptist Church, was asked to be the organist/choir director at the Christ United Methodist Church also. A month or two into this “two-church” assignment, she chose to combine both choirs for a concert. That was the First Annual Thanksgiving & Praise Concert. With much joy in the first presentation, we decided to open it up to area churches for their singers to join with us. We have approximately 50 singers, representing 17 churches in this Ecumenical Community Outreach endeavor.
A free will offering is taken and 100% of the donations are divided evenly between the Pittstown and Hoosick Falls Food Pantries.  Over the years, thousands of dollars have been given to the Food Pantries just in time to help with Thanksgiving Dinner distributions to those in our community in difficult situations.
Breaking the tradition of presenting brand new anthems, this year the singers themselves chose their favorite songs over the years.  So in essence, this program will be “Our Favorites over the Years!’
The Sunday afternoon concert will be opened by “Harmony of Faith,” an eight member praise group from the Holy Trinity Catholic Church.  Over the years, this praise group has been highly popular.
We will have other guests participating in our concerts, too, including  “Welcome Blend,” an a cappella quartet
Please call Dottie Cross at 663-8198 with any questions.
