Battle Of The Panthers For The Section II, Class C Superbowl

November 5, 2010 By eastwickpress

by Shari Hand
It’s déjà vu for Hoosick Falls Panther football as they prepare to meet the Chatham Panthers once again in the Section II, Class C Superbowl game. In 2009 both Panther teams battled to a tie until the last three seconds when Quinn Rasmus booted a game winning 39 yard field goal to win the contest for Hoosick Falls. The 2010 match-up will be just as exciting as both teams share matching records of 9-0.
Last Saturday the Panthers met up again with the Fonda-Fultonville Braves in the semi-final game at Stillwater Central School. The end of the first quarter found the Panthers in a 4th and goal situation. Mike Brewster (10-13 passing for 144 yards) ran a quarterback keeper into the end zone. After the successful extra point attempt by Erick Mulready, the quarter ended with a score of 7-0.
The second and third quarters found Mike Brewster adding two more quarterback keepers, Tanner Williams with three touchdown runs and Brad Burns running an interception into the end zone to make the score 46-0 as the time ran out.
The Braves were able to put two tallies on the scoreboard in the 4th quarter, and the game  ended with a score of 46-13.
The Panther defense held the Braves to 197 yards and executed some huge plays to secure the win as senior linebacker Garrett Foster had 11 tackles and a sack, senior defensive lineman Steve Colvin had 3 sacks and linebackers David Couch and Brad Burns each added 7 tackles.
“Our defense is playing with a high level of energy and intensity that is really exciting to watch right now. It seems like each week someone new steps up and makes big plays for our defense. The kids are playing very physical and also playing intelligent football. Each week we ask them to execute a new game plan, and they have met those challenges.  We are very excited about the opportunity to face a great team like Chatham,” said defensive coordinator Chris Fleming.
Don’t miss this highly anticipated contest which will take place this Friday at Stillwater Central School at 7 pm.
