This year the Stephanie Flint Book Club (also known as the Berlin Book Club) celebrated the twentieth year of its founding by a group of Berlin residents who wished to share their love of reading. Four of those founders, Helene Calman, Cheryl Hawksby, Eleanor Montgomery and Paula Paulson, then Library Director, were present at the celebration. A celebratory tea was held on Sunday, November 7, at the home of Helene Calman. Twelve members attended and enjoyed delicious refreshments along with the readings of three short stories. But best of all everyone enjoyed socializing with one another while they made plans for next year.
The Club started out small and met at the Berlin Free Town Library once a month for ten months – July being a pot luck picnic and December a holiday dinner. As the Club grew it moved to the Sedgwick Inn, a wonderfully cozy location. We met there until the Inn was sold and then moved to the Catholic Church on Main Street. After the Berlin Library was enlarged and renovated the group moved back to the Library, where it meets at 7:30 pm on the second Wednesday of each month. Our membership now numbers sixteen, and new members of both genders are always welcome. Come join us.
