Glenn E. Baker

November 19, 2010 By eastwickpress

West Hoosick – Glenn Edward Baker, 47, of West Hoosick, NY, passed away at home on November 13, 2010, after a brave struggle with leukemia, surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Glenn grew up in the small community of West Hoosick among many extended family and neighborhood friends. He graduated from HFCS in 1981 and after college enlisted in the Army’s 101st Airborne Division in Fort Campbell, KY, where he served two years. Upon completing his service, he returned home to join the family business, Baker’s Nurseries. He became the fourth generation Baker to dedicate his career to the family business. He excelled in his craft of landscape design and brought many new innovations to the family business. He loved working with others and built up many friendships during his career at the nursery.
In March of 2003 his National Guard unit was one of the first units to be called to service during the Kuwait War, where he served on the medical evacuation team in Kuwait City. He was serving in the Scotia Glenville 109th Division of the Air National Guard. He brought home many stories of the heartache of war on human lives.
After his safe return, he married the love of his life, Fawn Whitman, and together with her two beautiful children, Saige and Dylan, established their family in West Hoosick. They were blessed with a son, Edward J. Baker, soon after.
Glenn served with the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad, was a lifetime member of the West Hoosick Baptist Church, loved singing and playing his guitar and keyboard and was an excellent musician, writing his own music and lyrics. He was an avid reader and loved the outdoors, camping, hiking and gardening. He especially loved traveling with family and his best buddy, Uncle Scott. His favorite destinations were New Mexico and Maine.
He, along with his wife Fawn, established the Giggle Squirts Daycare Center, which is attached to their home. He especially enjoyed spending time with the kids watching them learn, grow and mature.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Fawn, his four children, Edward Baker, Dylan and Saige Nuzzo and Lacy Bailey of Manchester, VT, his parents, Donald and Paula Baker, his sister and brother-in-law, Lisa and Ken Begin, his grandparents, Paul and Janette Moseley and all of West Hoosick along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Memorial Service was held on Thursday, November 18, at 11 am in the West Hoosick Baptist Church. Inurnment with military honors followed in the West Hoosick Cemetery. Relatives and friends were invited to the Church for a visitation hour starting at 10 am on Thursday.
Donations in Glenn’s memory can be given to the West Hoosick Baptist Church, Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad or the Leukemia Society of America. Arrangements are under the guidance of the Robson-Reinfurt Funeral Home of Hoosick Falls, NY.
He was a lover of life, a dreamer of dreams, a spirit of extraordinary proportion, an exceptional husband, father, son and brother. We shall miss his intelligence, his compassion, his wit and sarcasm, his smile, his laugh, his embrace and most of all his beautiful spirit. Farewell Glenn, until one day.
