The Poestenkill Historical Society November’s program will be held on Tuesday, November 16, at 7 pm in the Poestenkill Town Hall on Rt. 351. Lloyd Schiesser will present a program on “The History and Structure of the Covered Bridge.”
Schiesser has traveled extensively studying and photographing covered bridges. Covered bridges symbolize small town America.Mainly associated with the 19th century, covered bridges often serve as prominent local landmarks and have long attracted the attention of historic preservationists.Early bridges were often made of wood, and the bridges tended to deteriorate rapidly from exposure, having a lifespan of only nine years. Covering them extended their life to 80 years or more. Schiesser’s presentation is free, and the public is welcome.
Refreshments will be served. For directions, call Pat at 283-5223.
