Hoosick Grange Seals Presented

November 19, 2010 By eastwickpress

Last Wednesday, on November 10, Hoosick Grangers and families had a delicious turkey dinner. Helen Filkins was Chairman of the dinner with her assistants Louise Ciuk and Mary Remancus. After grace was said Grangers just pitched in and served the dinner and cleaned up afterward.
The Master, David Cornell, spoke and said he was so glad to see so many present. Then he presented Norma Brenenstuhl with a 70 year seal and Mary Marpe and Richard Akin with a 60 year seal. Next he presented 50 year seals to Charles Filkins and his sister Judy King and Robert Rose and Melvyn Rose. They all had a chance to speak of their years in Grange. Next he presented 40 year seals to Louise Slingerland, Kendal Baker and David Marpe.
The Lecturer, Corinne Philpott, presented Martha Babbitt of Hoosick Grange, who was a delegate to the 138th session of the New York State Grange at Watertown, NY. She had an excellent presentation with pictures and commentary. She had recorded the wonderful Cappela Choir they had and told about the banquet. They had the New York State Dairy Princess and the Future Farmers of America Vice President, who spoke. Martha went on a dairy tour of farms that had 1,800 cows or more. New York State Agriculture Commissioner Patrick Hooker spoke at this meeting. The Lecturer thanked Martha for an excellent report.
The Lecturer had a few jokes and a closing thought – “If you want something done right, do it yourself – unless it’s a haircut.” She announced that there won’t be any Grange meeting on November 24 because of Thanksgiving. Our next meeting is on December 8, our Christmas Party. We are inviting guests or anyone who would like to come to our program. The program is the Mennonites singing for us at 7:30 pm. Grangers are to bring cookies. There will not be a grab bag and note the time change.
