Cherry Plain – Jacob H. “Jake” Bink Jr., 62, of Locust Avenue, Troy, NY, died on Monday afternoon, November 8, 2010, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy after a brief illness.
Born in Cherry Plain, NY, on December 3, 1947, he was the son of the late Jacob H. and Doris Teal Bink. He was the loving husband of the former June Snyder, whom he married on August 12, 1967, in the Seventh Day Baptist Church in Berlin, NY.
Jake attended Berlin High School and was drafted into the United States Army in June of 1967. He served in both the US and Germany. He was honorably discharged in July of 1969. He moved to Troy 35 years ago from Cherry Plain. He was employed by Madden’s Service Center in Stephentown, NY, for a few years. Jake worked for the Troy Housing Authority for over 26 years retiring in 2002. In retirement, he worked at the Troy Country Club in maintenance. Jake was a devoted family man who enjoyed woodworking, working on cars, NASCAR and socializing with friends and relatives. According to Jake, “There is a right way to do something, a wrong way and Jake’s way.”
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, June Snyder Bink, his children, Crystal L. and her husband Richard Sehl and John L. Bink all of Troy and Doris J. Kelly of Gloversville, NY, his grandchildren, Brandy J. and husband Nicholas Scifo, Ronald Kelly Jr., Eva and husband Scott Sanford, Angela Bink, Richard Sehl Jr., Karley Sehl, Alyssa Sehl and Jacob “Buddy” Sehl, his great-grandchildren, Nicholas Scifo Jr. and Donavon Sanford, his siblings Richard Bink of Averill Park, NY, Kenneth Bink of Florida, Philip Bink of East Nassau, NY, Joyce and husband Fred Moses of Berlin, Elvia and husband David Corlew of Stephentown, Lillian and husband Lee Grandjean of Ballston Spa, NY, Donna Bink of Stuyvesant, NY, Lorraine and husband George Heath of Valatie, NY, and Melissa Bink of Warwick, RI, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Wayne Bink.
Keeping with Jake’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. A Graveside Service is on Friday, November 12, at 11 am in the Berlin Community Cemetery, Route 22, Berlin. Relatives and friends are invited. In lieu of flowers to remember Jake in a special way, contributions may be made to the Community Hospice of Rensselaer County, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY, 12144. Arrangements are under the guidance of the Hall and Higgins Funeral Home of Stephentown.
