Let Luminaries Light The Season

November 19, 2010 By eastwickpress

As plans continue to take shape to make the Hoosic River Greenway along the Hoosic River a reality, funds are being raised to help light the greenway for night use. Members of the Greenway committee are selling luminary kits to create a festive atmosphere along our community’s sidewalks and driveways at nightfall this Christmas Eve. “This is a wonderful opportunity for our community to show support for this project that will become a key attraction to this area in the coming years,” said Shelly Stiles, Program Director for the Hoosic River Watershed Association. “Seeing all the streets and sidewalks lined with luminaries will create a special seasonal touch, which we hope will become an annual tradition,” said Stiles.
Payment Due November 30
The kits, for sale at a price of $10 each, include six luminaries, sand and simple instructions for how to put them together. Kits must be ordered in advance by returning a completed form along with payment by November 30. Forms can be picked up and later returned with payment at Thorpe’s Pharmacy, the Hoosick Federal Credit Union or the Hoosick Falls Village Clerk’s office. Paid orders received by November 30 will be available for pickup from 4 to 6 pm on Thursday, December 16, at the Hoosic River Greenway holiday bonfire at the south end of the Greenway off Waterworks Road (near the water treatment plant) or from 9 am to 12 pm on Saturday, December 18, behind the Hoosick Falls Municipal building on Wilder Avenue.
The members of the Hoosic River Greenway committee are pleased to have the support of area Boy Scout troops who are assisting with kit assembly and distribution for this community-wide show of support for our Hoosic River Greenway.
The Hoosic River Greenway is a project of the Village of Hoosick Falls, the Hoosic River Watershed Association and community residents.
