Red Storm Rains Down On Panthers’ State Title Quest

November 19, 2010 By eastwickpress

by Shari Hand
A 32-yard field goal in overtime by Saranac Lake’s Forrest Morgan sealed the win in last Saturday’s Class C Regional Final against Class C Section II Super Bowl Champs Hoosick Falls Panthers.
The Panthers held a solid lead throughout most of the game with scores by quarterback Mike Brewster and receiver Quinn Rasmus before halftime.
The third quarter saw the momentum begin to swing in the Red Storm’s favor as they made several key offensive plays to move the ball down the field. Despite the Panthers’ strong defensive play, a series of missed opportunities and penalties found the Storm in favorable scoring positions in the fourth quarter as they were able to find the end zone twice to tie the score, forcing the game into overtime with a score of 12-12.

Hoosick Falls had the first shot at a score from the 20 yard line with no success. Instead of going for fourth down with short yardage, Saranac Lake’s Forrest Morgan kicked the ball through the uprights from 32 yards out, ending the game with a score of 15-12.
Hoosick Falls players Mike Brewster and David Couch received offensive and defensive honors for their outstanding game play.
The Panthers end the season with a record of 10-1 and are ranked third in the State. Saranac Lake will move on to the State Semifinal contest on Saturday against Bronxville at Dietz Stadium. Bronxville is currently ranked second in the State.
