Berlin – Ruth Copping Strait of Guilderland, 90, went to be with the Lord on October 30, 2010, at the Teresian House nursing home in Albany, NY, with family by her side.
Mrs. Strait was born in Castile, Wyoming County, NY, and had lived in Berlin, NY, Albany and Guilderland, NY. She was the daughter of the late John and Lillian Copping and the widow of Ralph E. Strait.
Mrs. Strait graduated from Berlin Central School and the State University of New York at Albany. She completed the Drafting Training Course at the General Electric Co. in Pittsfield, MA, where she was employed for several years.
Before her retirement, Mrs. Strait had been employed for twenty years by the New York State Education Dept. From 1978 to 1980 she was President of the Rensselaer Co. Weaver’s Guild and was one of the founders of the Mid-Singles Club. She had belonged to the Albany Business and Professional Women’s Club and the Albany American Association of University Women. For six years Mrs. Strait was Secretary of #194 Education Division, Public Employee’s Federation Union. She also had been an officer of Quilter’s United in Learning Together and of the Guilderland Westlawn Neighborhood Association. Recently she was involved with quilting and other crafts.
She is survived by her sons, William R. and wife Sandy and Jerold A. and wife Ellen, grandchildren, Stefon, Sean, Tracy, Jennifer, Stephanie and Colleen, several great-grandchildren and her niece, Kathleen Nichter, and nephews, Jon, Daniel and Kyle Roach.
A Memorial Service is on Friday, November 5, at 4:30 pm in the Infant of Prague Chapel at the Teresian House, Washington Ave Ext., Albany. There will be a calling hour on Friday before the service from 3:30 to 4:30 pm. Donations may be made in her name to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region, 139 South Lake Ave., Albany, NY, 12208.
The family would like to express its heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Teresian House, especially the B wing of the third floor, for the loving care that was shown to both Ruth and the family during her stay with them.
