The Stephentown Library Book Discussion Group will read The Postmistress by Sarah Blake for its meeting on Thursday, December 2.
In 1940, radio gal Frankie Bard, reporting on the Blitz from London, wants to bring the war home to Americans and urge them to action. The other half of the tale features some of Frankie’s listeners – Iris, the postmaster in a small Cape Cod town, and Emma Fitch, the bride of the young local doctor. Lives cross paths when Dr. Fitch volunteers to work at a London hospital. Both small town American life and war ravaged Europe are vividly brought to the reader.
Meetings are held in the Community Room at the Stephentown Memorial Library, Main Street, Stephentown, from noon to 1 pm. Bring a lunch if you like.
Copies of the book are available at the Library desk. New readers are always welcome. For more information, call 518-733-5750.
