The Colors of the Rainbow: Girl Scouts Come Together

November 24, 2010 By eastwickpress

On Friday, November 5, more than 65 Girl Scouts, ranging in age from 5 to 17, and many of their leaders and mothers, came together in a burst of color for their annual “lock-in” sleepover at St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls. This year’s theme of Colors of the Rainbow gave girls an opportunity to show their differences in ages, shapes, sizes, colors, backgrounds, personalities and interests while also representing their unity and the bright futures that Girl Scouts is helping them to achieve.
Following the traditional pledge of allegiance to the flag, the Girl Scout promise and an enormous friendship circle that almost filled the gym, girls participated in fun activities involving teamwork and creativity, danced to their favorite songs and watched Toy Story 3. After many of the youngest girls were sound asleep, the older girls arrived from the exhilarating Hoosick Falls vs. Chatham Super Bowl game ready for their late night snacks, movie and time together.
Everyone arose early on Saturday morning to a warm baked pancake and juice breakfast and many stories to tell from the evening before. Girls are already looking forward to next year.
Instead of a fee for this annual event, girls were encouraged to bring a nonperishable food item for the Hoosick Area Church Association food pantry – 114 items were collected.
