William H. Jacobsen

Pownal – Mr. William “Jake” H. Jacobsen, 82, a resident of Cozy Meadows Park, Pownal, VT, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, November 10, 2010. He was born in Springfield, MA, on October 15, 1928, to Henry W. and Irene  (Hoffman) Jacobsen.
After receiving his education, he served in the US Army during World War II. In his early years he worked at Ben Mont Paper Company in Bennington, VT, and at Green Mountain Race Track in Pownal, as a teller. He then relocated to Colorado where he operated a pizza parlor. Upon returning to Vermont he was employed at the Pownal Tanning Company from which he retired.
Jake was a former member of American Legion Post 90 in Pownal and was presently a member  of American Legion Post 13 in Bennington.
He enjoyed talking politics, working on his home and playing cards, and he was an avid coin collector.
He leaves his two daughters, Linda Leonard of Pownal and Barbara Johnson of Bennington, two sons, William Jacobsen of Hoosick Falls, NY, and Kevin Jacobsen of Pownal, a brother, Robert Jacobsen of Schodack, NY, his former wife, June Jacobsen of North Pownal, VT, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his sister, Joyce Jacobsen.
Funeral services were held on Monday, November 15, at 10 am at the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington. Friends called at the funeral home on Monday from 9 to 10 am. Burial with full military honors took place in the Gerald B. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY, on Monday at 2 pm.
Memorial gifts in memory of Jake may be made to the Pownal Rescue Squad in care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 West Main Street, Bennington, VT, 05201.
