A Growing Celebration

December 17, 2010 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson
Now in the hands of HAYC3, the tree lighting in Hoosick Falls continues to grow. Shops stayed open Friday evening, December 10. A small crowd gathered at 5 pm to see the tree lighted in Wood Park. From there folks wandered over to the Youth Center for a pancake supper. The parade through the Village to honor the community’s volunteer fire fighters began at six with decorated fire trucks from White Creek, North Hoosick, Hoosick and Hoosick Falls. Santa Claus (who bore a strong resemblance to Lester Goodermote) rode in the lead truck. After a ride through the business district, Santa returned to spend time with about 100 youngsters who sat on his knee and told him of their heart’s desire for Christmas. The crowd in the Youth Center was huge!

Santa had an ideal setting to hear children’s requests at the Youth Center last Friday. About 100 children stopped by to have their pictures taken and tell him what they hope he will bring them on Christmas eve. (Bea Peterson photo)

There were activities for the youngsters throughout the evening. Every child who spent time with Santa received a toy and a candy cane.
In past years after the tree lighting refreshments were served in the Village Municipal building. However, for the last three years Santa has been on the scene, and the increasing number of families to see him overwhelmed the small Village meeting room. Hence, the move to the Youth Center, which was beautifully decorated for the occasion and turned out to be the perfect place to see the jolly old elf.

OK Where’s The Fire, Santa? Last Friday the parade through the Village to honor the community’s volunteer firefighters began at six with decorated fire trucks from White Creek, North Hoosick, Hoosick and Hoosick Falls. Santa Claus (who bore a strong resemblance to Lester Goodermote) rode in the lead truck. (Bea Peterson photo)
