Berlin Middle High School Addresses Reaction To Former Student’s Death

December 17, 2010 By eastwickpress

submitted by Jeanne Casatelli, Communications Specialist, Questar III
“Berlin Middle High School experienced tension among students today following the news of the death of a former student,” stated Cathie Allain, Berlin High School’s Principal.
Allain also noted that to avoid possible conflicts, the Middle High School administration kept students in class until they were escorted to buses to go home. Law enforcement was called to ensure an orderly dismissal. The Holiday Concert scheduled for tonight was postponed until December 22, at 7 pm.
Berlin staff then met to discuss the situation and to decide on steps to be taken over the next few days to address students’ concerns and to maintain a safe and quiet environment in the school, according to Allain.
Berlin CSD Superintendent Dr. Brian Howard issued a statement to the District website to explain the situation.
Allain will address high school students at the morning assembly. Middle School Principal Jason Breh will meet students as they disembark from buses and gather in the school hallway before class.
Allain said, “The majority of students conducted themselves appropriately, and the school will address the very small number who need attention. Students who wish to commemorate the former student will be encouraged to do so with photos and notes at the guidance office.”
