High Winds In Hoosick Falls Close John Street

December 3, 2010 By eastwickpress

by Bea Peterson
John Street was closed for about a half hour Wednesday afternoon while Village employees and John St. business people pushed brooms to remove glass from the sidewalk and street. Heavy winds whipped through the street knocking out a side display window and a second floor window in the former Ruditis building. “Wind was blowing wildly through out back yard and Herb said he thought he should check on the building,” said Peg Loretan as she swept glass from the show window. She and her husband Herb own the building.

Their timing was perfect as they arrived about the time the windows blew out. Herb, who is recovering from recent surgery said he was amazed by the assistance they received so quickly. “There was so much help,” he said. “We are grateful to the Village crew, the Police Department and all the business people who worked so quickly to get the glass cleaned up. It really made us feel good to receive all that help and support.”
The glass was no sooner cleared from the streets when winds and heavy rain blanketed the Village.
